Women in Medicine and Sciences recognizes female faculty and trainees at our annual end-of-year celebration event.

2023 Annual Event

The 2023 Women in Medicine and Science annual event was an Ice Cream Social held on Thursday, August 17th at 4:30pm. The in-person social included celebrating the 2023 WIMS Award Recognition recipients as well as hearing about diversity and inclusivity efforts from Dr. Jerrihlyn McGee and Dr. Lynette Sparkman-Barnes.

2022 Annual Event 

The 2022 Women in Medicine and Science annual event was an Ice Cream Social held on Monday, August 29 at 5:00pm. The in-person social included celebrating the 2022 WIMS Recognition Award recipients and the announcement of the 2022-2025 Joy McCann Professor as well as the 2022-2023 WIMS Executive Council.


2021 Annual Event

The 2021 Women in Medicine and Science Annual Awards Event was held Thursday, August 26, at noon. The virtual event included a keynote by Dr. Kimber Richter, and the presentation of awards to honor distinguished women in the KU Medical Center community.

2020 Annual Event

The 2020 Women in Medicine and Science Annual Awards Event was held Thursday, August 20, at noon. In addition to the keynote speaker, the virtual event included the presentation of awards that honored distinguished women in the KU Medical Center community who exhibited remarkable support for the advancement of women faculty members' careers in medicine and science.

Keynote Speaker: Julie Silver, M.D.

Keynote Topic: Strategies to Achieve Equitable Compensation and Promotion for Women in Academic Medicine

Julie K. Silver, M.D., is an associate professor and associate chair in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School.
