William A. Godfrey, MD

Professional Background
Dr. Godfrey received his BS in Mathematics and MD from the University of Kansas. He completed an externship in cardiology from St. Luke's Hospital, as an internship in internal medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. While in the Air Force, he served as a General Medical Officer, Flight Surgeon and Director of the Outpatient Clinic and Hospital Pharmacy in Libya and received clinical training in Dermatology and Flight Surgeon Medicine at the USAF Hospital in Weisbaden, Germany. He joined KU Eye/Department of Ophthalmology faculty in 1973 and is currently Professor of Ophthalmology.

Research
Overview
Dr. Godfrey is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in uveitis, which is eye inflammation affecting the iris and other parts of the uvea. His research interests include choroidal mast cell and its effect on local vascular regulation and relation to age related macular degeneration, confocal microscopy of inflammatory corneal precipitates and confocal microscopy of uveitis.
