Taimur Safder, MD

Professional Background

Dr. Taimur Safder is an expert in advance/multi-modality cardiac imaging, including Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, and echocardiography, including structural/interventional echocardiography. He has a special interest in preventive cardiology, valvular heart disease, and cardiovascular initiatives within public health. Dr. Safder currently serves as the Associate Director of the Advanced Imaging Program. His approach to patient care emphasizes shared decision-making, taking into account patient preferences while adhering to evidence-based medicine.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Safder has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He also serves as a peer reviewer for various medical journals. He has previously been involved in committees for the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Cardiology. His work has been featured in online and print media, including ABC News, The Houston Chronicle, The Kansas City Star, and The Baltimore Sun. Dr. Safder has also been the recipient of the American College of Physicians’ Innovative Ideas Grant and the Excellence in Preventive Medicine Award.

Dr. Safder grew up in Overland Park, KS, and completed his medical school and internal medicine residency at the University of Kansas. He then pursued his passion for public health, writing, and health policy, earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Following this, he completed his cardiology fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center, followed by a two-year advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at Northwestern University.

Throughout his training, Dr. Safder has received numerous accolades, including several teaching awards from medical students and residents, the Resident of the Year Award, and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
