Tanner graduated from the University of Kansas with his Bachelor of Science of Nursing. His Master's in the Science of Nursing Degree is from the Research College of Nursing, focused in the Executive Nurse Practice track. He also graduated from Capella University with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Leadership, Education and Management.
Tanner’s clinical experience is varied in the areas of mental health and providing treatment for patients with eating disorders and trauma. In the health system setting, he serves full time as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner in the Nurse Practice Research and Professional Development department at the University of Kansas Health System. In this department, he is currently the lead facilitator of the Mental Health Training Program, Mental Health Fellowship Program, and Trauma Informed Care program.
As an educator, he has worked as a clinical site preceptor for mental health and Capstone rotations as well as being an instructor for mental health simulation. He also serves as an instructor for several online courses in the MSN and DNP tracks and facilitates the Independent Study in Nursing Internship course. In 2024, he was given the Delta Chapter Community Leadership Excellence Award related to the mental health education programs that are facilitated within the University of Kansas Health System and the University of Kansas School of Nursing.
