Professional Background
Tanya Filardi, M.D. is a Education Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medial Center. She joined the faculty in 2014.
Dr. Filardi earned bachelor’s degrees in human biology and English and Literature at the University of Kansas and received her medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. After three years of general surgery residency at the University of Vermont, she started neurosurgery residency at KU Medical Center, completed several years of pediatric fellowship training at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital and one year of training at the University of Chicago.
An active educator, Dr. Filardi is an Education Assistant Professor and part of the ACE Simulation Core Faculty for first- and second-year medical students at the KU School of Medicine. She also is a member of the medical school’s Clinical Skills Advisory Group and serves as an invited lecturer for physical medicine and rehabilitation residents and neuropsychology doctoral students. In addition, Dr. Filardi serves as a supervising physician at Philmont Scout Camp, Cimarron, NM, and co-leads wilderness training for medics at the camp.
Dr. Filardi has participated in research projects at Philmont as well as served as a sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials. She also is credited with several posters and publication in refereed journals. As part of her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Filardi helped establish and staffs a traumatic brain injury multidisciplinary clinic at The University of Kansas Health System.
