Learn how mindfulness can help you reduce stress, sleep better and have less self-judgment. Increasing mindfulness helps people enjoy their lives in the present, reduces rumination about the past and worry about the future. Mindfulness can also help raise awareness of our interconnectedness and increase compassion for ourselves and others. Keep the momentum going with Koru 2.0, the second in the Mindfulness Series. Keeping up a meditation practice (even when you know it helps you) can be challenging. Join this class to learn additional skills while keeping your practice going. This 3-session (one hour) workshop with data about its effectiveness is limited to 12 students/residents. Perfectionistic thinking may lead to setting unattainable goals and engaging in behaviors that can wreak havoc on your physical health and psychological well-being. Learn practical suggestions for behavioral changes including seven ways to overcome perfectionism that range from choosing “passion over perfection” to remembering “you're more than what you do”. Required text: better than PERFECT by Elizabeth Lombardo will be provided. This 6-session workshop is limited to 12 students/residents. Those who have taken a previous Perfectionism workshop can repeat or join at session 4 for continuation of the basic workshop. Workshops will meet through Zoom. Improving Your Assertiveness and Self-Advocacy and Building Diplomacy Skills
In these two workshops, you will learn skills in being more assertive, self-advocating, and being strategic/diplomatic in important conversations. Evidence-based skills learned in these workshops are applicable for use with peers, faculty, bosses, patients, partners, and family members. Women of Color Group

This confidential group provides students who identify as women of color the opportunity to connect with and empower one another as we explore various life concerns and impactful themes, including identity, family, interpersonal relationships, race-related stress and trauma, academic distress, and more. Bringing our Campus Community Together: A spiritual gathering

We recognize the importance of supporting the spiritual needs of the entire KUMC community while helping them learn resiliency and feel connected. In a collaborative effort, the Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and KUMC Counseling & Educational Support Services will be holding a weekly virtual gathering to bring us together to foster a sense of community. Dr. Lynette Sparkman-Barnes and others will offer inspirational words, followed by a few minutes of silent meditation and mindfulness meditation. Join by Zoom
