Steve Stites, MD, Executive Vice President, Clinical Affairs / Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Stites joined the hospital’s leadership team as senior vice president of clinical affairs in February 2012 and became executive vice president and chief medical officer for the health system in July 2018. He serves a dual role as vice chancellor for clinical affairs at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
As executive vice president for clinical affairs and chief medical officer, Dr. Stites reports to The University of Kansas Hospital Authority’s chief executive officer and has responsibilities in the areas of clinical programs and practice development, as well as strategic planning and education. As vice chancellor for clinical affairs, Dr. Stites reports to the university’s executive vice chancellor, working to fully integrate our clinical departments into a wider-reaching health system and ensuring we have a strong strategic plan for educating future physicians and growing the academic strength of our clinical programs.
He served as chair of the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine from 2007-2014 and was the interim executive vice chancellor for 10 months; from 2000-2008 he was the residency program director in internal medicine.
Dr. Stites received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the University of Rochester and fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
