Clinical Assistant Professor, Plastic, Burn and Wound Surgery

Professional Background

I have always had a very diverse practice. At St. Luke's health system, I mainly did reconstructive plastic surgery, hand trauma, maxillofacial trauma. My reconstructed practice was very broad. included reconstruction after Mohs, pelvic and gynecologic reconstruction, head and neck soft tissue reconstruction, autologous tissue and implant based breast reconstruction, chest wall reconstruction, abdominal wall reconstruction, lower extremity limb salvage, and wound care. In a typical day at St. Lukes I would do several breast reconstruction cases, a wound case (lower extremity or pressure sore flap), and then go to the office for a Mohs closure. I shared an office with a dermatologist. One week every month I took call for hand trauma and maxillofacial trauma.
When I joined the department of plastic surgery, I continued my broad based St. Luke's practice but also expanded into elective hand surgery, cosmetics, and burn care at KU. My practice at KU grew more quickly than I expected. Within several years of joining, I left Saint Lukes.
Since our faculty was relatively small, we all took call for hand trauma, face trauma, and burn one week every month. Over the last 12 years I have continued to build and expanded my elective practice by learning to treat lower extremity venous disease and developing a gender reassignment program.
