Dr. Sara Peterson-Dzik is a full-time hospitalist at the University of Kansas Medical Center, dedicated to providing inclusive, evidence-based care with an additional focus on HIV care and gender diversity. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. Dr. Peterson-Dzik earned her medical degree and an MBA in Healthcare Leadership through a dual-degree program at Kansas City University and Rockhurst University, reflecting her passion for healthcare systems, leadership, and innovation.
She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Kansas (2021–2024), where she served as Chief Resident during her final year. Certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVS), Dr. Peterson-Dzik brings specialized expertise in HIV care. Alongside her inpatient hospitalist duties, she maintains limited outpatient clinical sessions in the Gender Diversity Clinic, delivering affirming care to transgender and gender-diverse patients.
Dr. Peterson-Dzik is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship, actively supporting students and residents. Her clinical approach centers on health equity, patient-centered communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She also contributes to resident teaching and quality improvement initiatives within the hospital medicine division.
