Dementia Care Communication
Help Shape Education for Care Partners
Communication is a challenge for family dementia care dyads and underserved groups face greater challenges due to lack of access and support. We are interested in interviewing Black/African American and Latinx/Hispanic care partners and their family member with dementia to learn more about how they communicate to accomplish daily dementia care. We will use their input to shape future communication education and technology to ensure it reflects their unique needs and experiences.
What is involved:
- We are holding these one-hour conversations over Zoom, an online video conferencing service, at a time and location of their choice.
- Both the care partner and the person with dementia will receive $100 each for participating.
- The care partner will need to complete econsents and an online survey prior to the Zoom conversation.
- Both the care partner and the person with dementia need to participate in the conversation and we need to be able to see and hear both people.
Topics we will discuss:
- Daily experiences dealing with dementia
- How communication plays a role in care
- What type of support they need to complete daily care
- What kinds of technology might be helpful
Who is eligible to participate:
- Black/African American and Latinx/Hispanic care partners and their family member with dementia
- A care partner is anyone who helps provide unpaid, daily care to the person with dementia and can provide consent for the person with dementia to participate in the research.
