Our Impact
International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing reflects the consolidated effort of health care professionals to develop and raise awareness of professional identity formation in nursing.
Since 2018, the KU School of Nursing has hosted events to develop the interdisciplinary notion of professional identity formation in nursing. The outcomes have been significant, including definitions, domains, exemplars, competencies, and a conceptual model. Multiple workgroups have formed to continue developing a professional identity as a field of study, including research and dissemination.
Since 2018, our efforts have yielded:
International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing (ISPIN)
Formed in January 2020, ISPIN reflects the consolidated effort of nurses, nurse educators, and health care professionals to develop and raise awareness of professional identity formation in nursing. This group works with educational organizations to incorporate professional identity formation into nursing curricula as well as working with the National League for Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to incorporate professional identity into seminal documents.
ISPIN is also collaborating with Sigma Theta Tau International to create a data repository for professional identity in nursing.
