    • *Completed Enrollment Plan Survey (see number 5. below)

Applicants who have completed applications (with exception of enrollment plan survey) by the priority deadline will receive an additional point in the admissions review process.

All parts of the application, including official transcripts and letters of recommendation, must be received by the deadlines stated above.

Application Requirements and Process

1. Apply online
2. Pay the $75 nonrefundable application fee
  • This fee will be honored for the entire academic year.
    • If your Fall application is denied or waitlisted, you will not be required to pay the $75 fee again if you choose to apply for admission to the Spring semester.
    • An academic year is considered August – July.
  • Spring applicants who wish to apply for the following Fall must pay the $75 application fee as it is considered the next academic year.
  • This is not an automatic process. Please contact the School of Nursing Office of Student Affairs BEFORE submitting your Spring application at soninfo@kumc.edu to request this fee waiver.
3. Provide official transcript(s) of all college coursework
  • An application will not be considered complete until all official transcripts are received.
  • An official transcript:
    1. Cannot be accessed or opened by the applicant,
    2. Must be sent directly to the School of Nursing from either the institution or a transcript sending agency like Parchment or Clearinghouse,
    3. Can be sent electronically or through the mail, but electronic is usually the fastest option.
  • When ordering an official transcript, select Send to Other Institution/Destination or Institution Not Listed and enter this email, which sends the transcript directly to the School of Nursing: SONtranscripts@kumc.edu.
  • We discourage selecting the University of Kansas as these transcripts will be received on the Lawrence campus and may delay processing of your application.
  • If the institution only provides hard copy transcripts, please have them mailed to this address:

Attn: Admissions
University of Kansas School of Nursing
Mail Stop 2029
3901 Rainbow Blvd.
Kansas City, KS 66160

  • Hard copy transcripts may take 7-10 business days to process.
  • KU-Lawrence applicants must list the University of Kansas on their application as one of their institutions but do not need to send their official transcript. The School of Nursing will upload it for you.
  • KU-Lawrence applicants will be required to send official transcripts from coursework taken at other institutions which are not listed on their KU transcript. We recommend speaking with your advisor to ensure all coursework has been transferred prior to submitting your application.
4. Review Transcript Evaluation

All applicants will be emailed an evaluation of their prerequisite courses via email within 6-8 weeks of the completed application. The transcript evaluation is the time for the applicant to review enrollment and make sure they are aware of any remaining prerequisite courses needed.

The transcript evaluation will include:

    • List of all institutions who have sent official transcripts
    • List of prerequisite courses with highlights of courses left to complete
    • Calculated cumulative grade point average

If applicants have questions or concerns about the transcript evaluation, they will be provided advisor contact information in the email.

5. Complete Enrollment Plans Survey

All applicants must complete an enrollment plans survey and attach an unofficial copy of that semester's final grades (Fall semester for Fall cohort applications and Spring semester for Spring cohort applications.)

Applicants will be emailed instructions and the survey link during the application process. The completed survey must be received by the final application deadline. Instructions and additional information are included in the email.

Admission Notification and Enrollment

Admission decisions are made by the Student Admission and Progression Committee and are emailed to applicants from the Office of Student Affairs, in these general timeframes:

  • Fall Application Cycle: Decision emails sent first week of March
  • Spring Application Cycle: Decision emails sent first week of August
Acceptance and Deposit

To verify admission acceptance and secure enrollment, admitted applicants must submit a completed acceptance survey and submit a $200 (non-refundable) enrollment deposit by the provided deadline in admission letter. This deposit is applied to the first semester’s tuition and is not an additional fee.

Active duty military personnel

If you are planning to apply to the KU BSN program through a military program (e.g. AECP, MECP or NECP), please contact Cyndie Majher at cmajher@kumc.edu for inquiries about the process.

English language requirement

All applicants for study at the University of Kansas whose native language is not English must demonstrate an established level of English language proficiency through either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the academic format of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

The test must have been taken within two years of the first semester of enrollment. When submitting test scores, please submit only original scores sent directly from the testing agency. Photocopies will not be accepted. For testing purposes, the ETS school code is 6895.
