Eligibility and Prerequisite Requirements

You must:

• Be admitted and enrolled in an associate degree in nursing program at a partner community college.
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 
• When calculating GPA, all transferable credit and associate degree in nursing courses are factored. When a course is repeated, both the original and the new grade are factored into the GPA.

Additional KU Admission Requirements

• Three letters of reference
• Resume
• Affirmation of Technical Standards for Admission.
• Your community college may require additional prerequisite courses, test scores (ACT, HESI, TEAS, TOEFL), high school transcripts, and/or an interview for admission. Applicants should contact the community college for specific requirements.
• Attributes considered: college scholastic achievement, interest in and commitment to nursing, health-related work/volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, personal characteristics

Application and Admittance Process

• First, apply to the community college’s nursing program. (You will need a copy of that admission letter for your KU application.)
• Then, apply to the KU School of Nursing. You may begin the KU BSN courses at any point during the associate degree in nursing program, as long as you have completed all of the required prerequisites.  

Application Deadlines

• Fall start: KU application open February 1-July 1
• Spring start  KU application open July 2-December 1
• All application materials, including official transcripts and references, must be received by the deadline above to be considered for admission.
• Apply early to maximize your chances for scholarship opportunities.

How to Apply

START YOUR CCNP APPLICATION

The following items are required when applying to the CCNP program:

• KU Application: Apply Online and select "Nursing (BSN)" on the Program Choice screen with a Subplan of “BSN: Nursing Community College Partnership”.
• Payment: $75 non-refundable application fee
• Transcript(s): You must submit an official transcript from every college or university you have attended. If applicable, this includes sending official scores for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP).
  • Submit official transcript(s) of all college coursework to:
    
    • KU School of Nursing, MS 2029, 3901 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66160, or
    • sontranscripts@kumc.edu
• Three (3) letters of reference. After you submit your application and enter your references’ contact information, the system will email them directly with instructions for submitting their recommendation. Choose individuals who can speak to your potential for success in the nursing program (e.g., faculty, teaching assistants, supervisors, or community leaders), rather than personal friends or family members.
• Resume/CV
• Copy of ADN Program Acceptance Letter

Admission Decisions

• Admission decisions are granted within 2-3 weeks after we receive your completed application.
• All applicants are notified of their admission status via email from the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the KU School of Nursing. 

Background Check

For KU programs to maintain accreditation status, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requires that all persons, employees, volunteers and students involved in patient care activities have background checks. This status is very important to health care organizations to demonstrate to patients and professionals that they meet the highest standards for patient care.

This background check will be done at the applicant's expense after provisional acceptance has been granted. The information from this report is held in confidence by the school. Learn more about background checks for students.

Costs: Tuition and Fees

The cost of an education at the University of Kansas is competitive with other top programs in nursing. The costs listed in the Tuition and Fees page are only for the University of Kansas portion of the partnership program.
