This comprehensive report includes over 84 pages of charts and information about the supply and characteristics of Kansas’ nursing workforce trends over ten years, 2015 to 2025. The data included compare the Kansas workforce to the national nursing workforce for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs). Join our Research Committee

The Research Committee is comprised of any Kansas-based researcher or person interested in sharing and exploring nursing research.

Led by Shin Hye Park, Ph.D., RN, the committee facilitates and promotes collaborative nurse research activities across the state. The committee's goal is to leverage research talent to better serve the health care community of Kansas, advance the field of nursing and health care and strengthen the nursing workforce in Kansas.

Meetings are virtual and typically fall on the fourth Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m. CT. They feature Kansas and national nursing research projects.

June 2025: Entry-level Pathways to Nursing

May 2025: The Care Economy

April 2025: Access to Maternity Care in Kansas report

During the meeting, Karen Weis, PhD, RNC-OB, FAAN, Christine A. Hartley Rural Nursing Professor, Salina Campus Dean, University of Kansas School of Nursing, shared her findings.

March 2025: KU Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP)

Watch a recording of the March 2025 Research Committee meeting where Teri Kennedy, Ph.D., MSW, ACSW, FGSA, FNAP, project director and principal investigator of the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP)*, a five-year HRSA award to the University of Kansas School of Nursing to educate and train the primary care and geriatrics workforces.

*Kansas 4M Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The award provided 100% of total costs and totaled $5 million with funding from 07/01/2024 through 06/30/2029. November 2024: Midwest Clinical Instruction Regional Network (MCIRN) Regional Needs Assessment Report

Heidi Keeler, Ph.D., MSN/MBA, RN, University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Nursing and Alexander Alsup, M.S., University of Kansas School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics and Data Science presented the Midwest Clinical Instruction Regional Network (MCIRN) Regional Needs Assessment Report to addresses the preparation needs of nurse preceptors, clinical instructors and clinical site placement staff in Region 7 (Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas).

October 2024: Frontiers Roadshow: resources, services, training programs and funding opportunities.

September 2024: Tracking the Nursing Workforce within States: California’s Data and Projection Model
