Choose How You Engage

We offer three flexible ways to participate: live, present, and on-demand at your convenience.

Live (Synchronous Participation)

You'll have the chance to ask questions, contribute to live activities, and participate in meaningful dialogue. Stay informed through our newsletters and register in advance via the School of Medicine Faculty Affairs & Development Events Calendar. Review events with '(AEDP Elective)' in the title and examine the description to determine which pillar(s) each event aligns with. Add sessions to your calendar to receive reminders and ensure you never miss an opportunity.

Present

Have expertise in a topic that aligns with one or more of the pillars? Share your knowledge with your colleagues! Contact Heather Rissler, PhD, EdD, Education Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Faculty Development. to propose a session and explore presentation opportunities.

On-Demand (Asynchronous Participation)

Access our event recordings anytime, anywhere. Our on-demand library makes it easy to fit professional development into your schedule. Visit our Recordings website for instant access. Click on 'Details' in the left-hand menu to view the event description and identify which pillar(s) it aligns with. After watching, complete the discussion activity (found in the left-hand menu) by sharing 1–3 actionable takeaways or behavior changes you plan to implement. Submit your response to receive credit.

Example of How to Meet the Electives Requirement

Some electives fall under more than one pillar; however, credit can only be applied to one pillar per session.

*Events not directly sponsored by Faculty Affairs and Development may also be considered. For instance, engaging in departmental training focused on faculty development could be deemed as an "alternative qualifying event" eligible for credit. However, credits from alternative qualifying events will only contribute to two out of the four elective pillars. If you attend such an event, please contact Heather Rissler, PhD, EdD, Education Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Faculty Development to determine whether it aligns with the purpose and objectives of the AEDP.

Complete Giving & Receiving Feedback

Engage in a reciprocal observation process where you and a partner observe and provide feedback on each other’s teaching. Observations can be conducted during a live lecture, either in person or via Zoom, or by reviewing a recorded lecture.

Step 1: Paring

Before Observation

To be completed before the observations.

  • Identify a peer enrolled in AEDP to partner with for your peer observation. If you aren't sure who to partner with, reach out to Heather Rissler, PhD, EdD, Education Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Faculty Development for assistance with identifying a partner.

  • Coordinate with your partner via e-mail to schedule peer observations of each other (you will each serve as an observer and be observed).

  • It is recommended that you identify any specific aspects of your teaching that you are seeking feedback on and share that information with your observing partner via e-mail.

Step 2: Documentation

During Observation

To be completed during the observation. This step is required for completion of AEDP certificate.

  • Submit the results of the survey in REDCap, download as a PDF and share with the observed peer.

POP FORM (REDCAP)

Step 3: Debrief

After Observation

To be completed following the observation.

It is recommended that you e-mail your peer observation partner and share the following:

  • How you thought your teaching went during the observation.

  • Your reflections on the feedback you received.

  • Indicate what changes, if any, you might make in your teaching.

Time Commitment Offered
~ 3-5 Hours Total Self-Paced

Complete Educational Project Plan (EPP)

Develop a project plan with a specific goal or aim that relates to educating students or training faculty. The plan must have specific learning objectives, an educational format or strategy, a learner assessment, and a proposed implementation timeline. Implementing or completing the Educational Project is not required. Educational Project Plans are approved by Heather Rissler, PhD, EdD, Education Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Faculty Development.

Documentation

This 7-step document guides you through reflection, a brief literature review, design, implementation, and evaluation, providing a practical framework for creating effective, evidence-informed teaching strategies. If you would benefit from seeing examples of completed EPPs, they are available upon request. You can also schedule a virtual brainstorming session with Heather Rissler, PhD, EdD, Education Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Faculty Development to discuss ideas.
