Caring for Kansas: Rural Health Providers Scholarship Program

The Kansas Center for Rural Health, in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Education and Area Health Education Center, is happy to offer our continuing education scholarship program, Caring for Kansas.  

The program is designed to support non-MD/DO rural health professionals across Kansas by funding both virtual and in-person continuing education opportunities offered through AHEC/OCE. Scholarships will be awarded at a first come, first serve basis to those who meet the eligibility requirements and are intended to reduce financial barriers to professional development. Approved expenses are reimbursed following successful completion of the continuing education opportunity. Eligibility requirements: 

  • Work as a non-DO/MD health professional 
    • Including but not limited to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, pharmacist, therapists, dietitians, and laboratory technicians 
  • Work primarily in one of the 99 counties not classified as urban by KDHE 
    • Excluded counties: Johnson, Sedgewick, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Shawnee, Douglas, Sedgwick 
    • Note that if an applicant lives in one of these counties but works primarily in an eligible county, they remain eligible for this program
  • In-person events must be held in the State of Kansas
  • The scholarship is for KUMC Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and the Office of Continuing Education (OCE) events only.

Submit an application at least two weeks prior to the continuing education event 

What is covered: 

  • Virtual experiences: Registration and credits 
  • In-person experiences: Registration and credits, hotel, mileage, per diem
