(S)HE: Sexual Health Empowerment
The (S)HE program's goals are to empower individuals in jails by providing sexual health education; facilitating access to correctional and community resources; and taking seriously the interpersonal, social, and community contexts into which women and men return when they leave jail, and how those contexts relate to health. Ranging from cervical health literacy programs to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine implementation programs, (S)HE works with women and men in the Kansas City area to improve sexual health outcomes both during and after incarceration.(S)HE studies have just expanded to women in Oakland, CA and Birmingham, AL, as well.
