Graduate Student - Jaeschke Lab
I immigrated with my family from Hue, Vietnam to North Platte, Nebraska in 2013, and got a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry and Health Science from University of Nebraska at Kearney where I had an opportunity to work in an organic chemistry lab. I have become very interested in science since high school but I didn’t have a chance to attend a science university when I was in Vietnam. Working in a research lab at UNK had shaped my interest in science more especially concerns about drug. I joined IGPBS in the summer of 2017 and Dr. Jaeschke’s lab in 2018.
Research interest: Drug-induced liver injury and acute liver failure is a major problem in Western societies in which Acetaminophen overdose is the most common cause. The narrow of therapeutic of the current antidote N-acetylcysteine necessitates a better understanding of APAP hepatotoxicity for developments of additional approaches which can benefit late presenting patients. We are interested in understanding the mechanisms of toxicity and regeneration to develop therapeutic interventions that reduce the severity of the disease and prevent acute liver failure. We are also interested in developing biomarkers to predict severity of APAP hepatotoxicity.
