Student Mentors

Support the Scholars in Health Program by becoming a student mentor.

The Office of Student Engagement is constantly searching for current medical students with a  commitment to serve in their community by volunteering to be a mentor for a premed student. If you are interested in becoming a Student Mentor for a Scholar in Health please fill out the form on this page. Please email any questions to ose@kumc.edu.

Medical students selected to be mentors will need to commit for the entire duration that the scholar is in the program. Mentors will serve as role models and will provide inspiration and advice to help them achieve their goals. This includes meeting regularly, sharing resources and networks, and offering tips on how to navigate medical school. Hours accrued through this engagement will count as community service through the Global Scholars Distinction Program. For more details, please visit the Scholars in Health program page.

Expected mentor commitment:

  • Be enrolled as a medical student in any of the campuses.
  • Have a commitment and desire to improve health outcomes for the rural and urban communities.
  • Be available to meet with assigned urban scholar at least twice a semester.
  • Provide advice on preparing for the MCAT.
