The Academy of Medical Educators (AME) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021-2022 Academy of Medical Educators Medical Education Innovations Mentored Award.

This award program is sponsored by the Academy of Medical Educators to encourage innovation in medical student teaching and evaluation.
The Academy of Medical Educators (AME) is pleased to announce a call for proposals to encourage innovation in medical student teaching and evaluation by faculty members of the University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUSOM). The priority for this funding cycle is to encourage mentorship in medical education research and scholarship. The Principal Investigator must identify a mentor who is a regular member of the AME as a collaborator on the project. This mentor may act as a co-PI or in a mentorship capacity only. The maximum amount of funding per proposal is $15,000. A total of $30,000 is available. Funds must be transferred by June 1, 2021. Attendance at the Technical Assistance Workshop is strongly encouraged. Each applicant must meet with Dr. Joseph LeMaster or Dr. Buddy Poje to discuss their proposal prior to submission. Principal Investigator (PI) must be a full-time faculty member in the KUSOM
Application and sample scoring rubric
Proposals must be:
• no longer than five (5) single-spaced pages
• complete yet concise descriptions of the project in the required format (see application)
• a minimum of 12-point font (excluding cover page, biosketches, letters of support, and appendices)
• applicants must partner with a mentor from the Academy of Medical Educators
• submitted in a single pdf sent to the AME (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than 5:00 pm on February 1, 2021
Proposals must include:
• Biographical sketches from key project personnel (NIH format preferred)
• Letter of support from associated project faculty (i.e. clinical skills lab director, clerkship director, etc.)
Criteria for Selection
The primary assessment criterion is the articulation of a project that makes a substantial and valuable contribution to the KUSOM curriculum. The proposal must concisely explain the need for the project and why it merits a high priority in the multiple competing aspects of curriculum change and innovation. Considerations in the assessment of projects include evidence of integrating best practices and sound theoretical basis, valid educational/scientific methodology, consideration of potential problems and strategies to address them, valid short and long-term outcomes with appropriate statistical analyses, reasonable budget, and potential for publication/presentation as educational scholarship.
