Scoring Criteria

Written Abstracts will be judged based on the following criteria:

Organization and Design 
• Clearly summarized the purpose of the research in an effective and concise manner.
• Provided sufficient background information presented so that a general audience can understand the rationale and goal of the research. 
• The research was original and its contribution to the field of study.

Methods
• The methodology, research design or research approach employed to address the hypothesis or inquiry are appropriate and clear. (5 points)
• The statistical testing, statistical significance or qualitative analysis used are appropriate and clear. (5 points)
• Provided a detailed account of procedures or a detailed explanation of commonly used research methods.


Recorded Abstracts Presentations
will be judged based on the following criteria:

Presentation
• Appropriate amount of time was used to communicate the topic including not exceeding the 5-minute time limit.
• Organized and prepared. 
• Spoke concisely.
• Clearly summarized the background and purpose in an effective and concise manner. 
• Directly explained the contribution to the field of study and methods.
• Aptly discussed study limitations and opportunities for future research.

The combined score of your written abstract and recorded abstract presentation will serve as your final score.  Abstract submissions will be organized into one of two groups: resident or fellow. First and second place monetary prizes will be awarded in each group.



Posters will be judged based on the following criteria:

Organization and Design
• Objectives are concise and easily understood. 
• Design, layout, and neatness are visually appealing. 
• Graphics (tables, figures, etc.) effectively communicate the text content so the viewer can understand without narration. 
• Components of the poster are organized in a logical flow and error-free.

Methods
• The methodology, research design or research approach employed to address the hypothesis or inquiry are clear and appropriate. 
• The statistical testing, statistical significance or qualitative analysis used are appropriate and clear.


Voiceover Recordings
will be judged based on the following criteria:

Presentation
• Appropriate amount of time was used to communicate the topic including not exceeding the 5-minute time limit. 
• Organized and prepared.
• Spoke concisely. 
• Clearly summarized the background and purpose in an effective and concise manner. 
• Directly explained the contribution to the field of study and methods within the 2-minute time limit.
• Aptly discussed study limitations and opportunities for future research.

The combined score of your poster and recorded voiceover will serve as your final score. Poster submissions will be organized into one of two groups: resident or fellow. First and second place monetary prizes will be awarded in each group.
