Rotations/Curriculum

Our three-year program is divided between both the University of Kansas Health System and Children's Mercy Hospital. The resident will spend their first year in separate thoracic and cardiac rotations. The second year will start with 3 months at Children's Mercy Hospital on the congenital cardiac service. The rest of the time will be spent on the cardiac/thoracic services as well as multifaceted rotations on supplementary services such as EP/cath lab, echo lab, and perfusion,. The third year will be spent entirely at KU on the cardiac and thoracic services as a chief cardiothoracic surgery resident. Throughout the fellowship, approximately one day per week will be spent in outpatient services/clinic.

Our curriculum includes monthly conferences such as journal club, morbidity/mortality and quality assurance as well as weekly core competency, tumor board and TSDA conferences.
