Request for Proposals (RFP)
Updated July 1, 2019
To heighten the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita’s scholarship visibility and accessibility while supporting students pursuing the Honors Track who present their research findings at regional or national conferences.
Up to $1,250 may be requested. *The amount requested for reimbursement is not guaranteed and is based on allowable expenses, as set by the Dean’s Office.*
Confirmation of conference acceptance for presentation must be reported to the Office of Research. All requests for funding should occur before the conference presentation. No retrospective funding will be allowed. Travel reimbursement is limited to conferences in the 48 contiguous states. Pre-approval is required for all out-of-state travel; the Centralized Travel form needs to be submitted prior to out-of-state travel. All travel expenses must comply with University policies: see Out-of-State Travel, KUSM-W. Grantees must complete a W-9 form and Centralized Travel Form and return them to the Office of Research, along with itemized receipts, a copy of the calendar indicating travel/conference dates, and conference agenda. Flight itinerary and hotel confirmation should be submitted as soon as flight and lodging are booked.
Students must be actively participating in KUSM Honors Track at the time of presentation. Only Wichita-based medical students (i.e., students who are completing their first and second years in Wichita) are eligible. Students are eligible for one grant only. Presentations must be made at conferences sponsored by well-known professional societies or organizations approved by the Office of Research.
The application process will be streamlined using the REQUEST FOR DEAN'S GRANTS for Student Travel to Present Research Results form (Word).
Confirmation of conference acceptance for presentation must be reported to the Office of Research.
All proposals must be submitted electronically to the Office of Research. The proposal should be sent in PDF format, via e-mail, to KU School of Medicine-Wichita Associate Dean for Research, KUWichitaResearch@kumc.edu.
