Pediatrics

• Research database - Interested in learning more about future clinical trials? Join our research database! The purpose of this database is to collect potential participants’ demographic and personal health information to determine if they qualify for any current and/or future research studies.

Adults

• Depression - The Vitalize Clinical Study is currently enrolling participants to study a new type of investigational drug for treating depression. Over a period of 14 weeks, participants will have a total of eight study visits at KU School of Medicine-Wichita and one telephone visit. During the eight clinic visits, participants will receive either the study drug or placebo as an oral tablet. Participants will also complete evaluations of their depression, physical examinations and tests of their blood, urine, heart and brain activity. Participants may also complete an optional sleep study. Participants must be between the ages of 18 to 64, diagnosed with depression, currently experiencing a major depressive episode, have mild anxiety and insomnia, and are not diagnosed with other psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder, antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), borderline personality disorder (BPD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In partnership with KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KUMC CTSU Wichita is also participating in the following clinical trials:

• Alzheimer’s Prevention - Study for adults 40-60 without memory impairment to complete surveys regarding the benefits of diet and exercise for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and the effects of menopause on long-term brain health. Surveys are completed online or via telephone and are expected to take 15-30 minutes to complete. Participants will receive $75 upon completion of all surveys. Learn more from the study flyer.
• ALS - Muscle cramps - The Ranolazine ALS study is looking to determine Ranolazine’s safety, effect on cramps and quality of life for ALS patients. Participants will be in the study for six months and will have five in-person visits and four phone call visits. Participation involves taking a pill by mouth twice a day, physical exams, questionnaires, blood draws, breathing tests, muscle strength testing and ECGs. Participants must be diagnosed with ALS and experience four or more muscle cramps per week. Learn more from the study flyer.
• Cohort - The Clinical Cohort Study is working to establish and maintain a group of potential research participants willing to allow us to follow their aging process over time. Participants must have a current diagnosis of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment. Participation in this study would require yearly visits for as long as the participant is willing and/or able. These visits will include a clinical evaluation, memory evaluation and additional optional assessments.
• Down Syndrome - A 12-month health and wellness research study designed specifically for adults with Down syndrome (ages 18–64). This study offers participants the opportunity of either a weight loss or a general health education program, with ongoing one-on-one support. Highlights of the program include:

  • Up to 3 study visits at KU School of Medicine-Wichita
  • No cost to join, plus compensation for participation
