The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita at Wesley Medical Center is rooted in the shared mission of both institutions: to deliver exceptional patient care with compassion – every patient, every time. Our mission is to provide exceptional emergency medicine education and training in an environment fostering compassion, collaboration and teamwork. Residents are mentored to excel in clinical or academic settings, deliver evidence-based and humanistic care, and build fulfilling and impactful careers.

Our program immerses residents in the emergency department with a clinical curriculum based around work in our high-acuity, high-volume Level I trauma center. We are set apart by our high pediatric volume and acuity, trauma and ICU experiences entirely unopposed by other learners, a comprehensive and cutting-edge SIM curriculum, and passionate faculty members with varied backgrounds and experience.

Our residents’ experiences will be enhanced by the strong foundation for graduate medical education already established at Wesley Medical Center, providing the opportunity to collaborate across specialties, contribute to quality improvement, engage in scholarly activity, and learn from respected leaders in emergency medicine, trauma, pediatrics and critical care. Our priority is to support our residents on their journey to become extraordinary emergency physicians with a focus on personal growth and a commitment to wellness, with thoughtfully designed shift schedules to prioritize personal time and healthy sleep, and no requirements for overnight call.
