How to Apply
The KU School of Medicine-Wichita General Surgery Residency program accepts seven PGY-1 categorical residents each year. There is currently a total of 35 residents in this columnar program, seven in PGY 1-4 levels and six in the PGY-5 level. We also have one PGY-1 preliminary resident.
For the 2024 ERAS® cycle, our program encourages all applicants to complete a supplemental ERAS application, offered through the AAMC's ERAS program. We accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) from the Association of American Medical Colleges and applicants also will be required to complete the MyERAS application.
The additional information will help our program staff learn more about applicants' medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer and research experiences, and help us better identify applicants who fit our program environment and mission.
Application deadline is Nov. 1, 2023. First round of interview invitations will be sent out on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Applications must contain the following to be considered:
- ERAS Application
- Official Dean's Letter and transcript of grades
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably from surgical faculty
Applicants must have graduated from medical school since 2018. Applicants must also have prior clinical practice in the U.S. as a student, resident or M.D. after December 2018.
Interviews will be virtual and are scheduled by invitation only. Our interviews are conducted on Wednesday mornings in November and December. The interview day typically concludes by 1 p.m. Central Time.
