Application Process

How to Apply

The KU School of Medicine-Wichita General Surgery Residency program accepts seven PGY-1 categorical residents each year. There is currently a total of 32 residents in this columnar program, six in PGY levels 3-5 and seven in PGY levels 1 and 2.

For the 2022 ERAS® cycle, our program encourages all applicants to complete a supplemental ERAS application, offered through the AAMC's ERAS program. We accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) from the Association of American Medical Colleges and applicants also will be required to complete the MyERAS application.

The additional information will help our program staff learn more about applicants' medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer and research experiences, and help us better identify applicants who fit our program environment and mission. This supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on a survey platform outside the MyERAS application and must be completed between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30.

Please bookmark the supplemental ERAS application section of the AAMC website to find the latest information, FAQs, and resources.

Application deadline is Nov. 1, 2021. First round of interview invitations will be sent out Oct. 27. Applications must contain the following to be considered:

  1. ERAS Application
  2. Official Dean's Letter and transcript of grades
  3. Three letters of recommendation, preferably from surgical faculty
