Remembering Lan Ly, M.D.
Dr. Ly graduated from KU School of Medicine-Wichita in 2014 and completed the Wesley Family Medicine Residency Program in 2017.

We are saddened to share that Lan Ly, M.D., died Saturday, April 19. Dr. Ly graduated from KU School of Medicine-Wichita in 2014 and completed the Wesley Family Medicine Residency Program in 2017. She had been a volunteer clinical assistant professor with the Department of Family & Community Medicine since 2019.
Dr. Ly was diagnosed with gastric cancer in April 2023 and had been receiving treatments.
She practiced at CenterPointe Physicians in Manhattan, Kansas, but moved back to Wichita with her husband and their son in 2024 to be closer to her family.
Amanda Just Rhyne, M.D., chief medical officer with Salina Family Healthcare Center, met Dr. Ly when they were residents. In a January article, Dr. Rhyne said, “I hope she knows how impactful she’s been. I try to tell her that every time I see her, but she’s so humble.”
An endowed student support fund in Dr. Ly’s name for rural family medicine reached its investment minimum of $25,000 in just two weeks after word about its creation spread. Spearheaded by Dr. Rhyne, supporters include Dr. Ly’s family, friends and colleagues in addition to faculty, Wesley Family Medicine resident graduates, CenterPointe Physicians and the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.
If you would like to give to Dr. Ly’s fund in her memory, please contact Brad Rukes, KU Endowment senior development director-Wichita, at 316-293-2641 or brukes@kuendowment.org.
Please keep Dr. Ly’s family and friends in your thoughts. Her obituary can be found at Lan Ly avis de décès - Wichita, KS. Her husband asked that those who knew or worked with Dr. Ly to post or comment on the obituary link so he can print them out for a book to share with their son when he is older.
