Project Access goes over the edge to celebrate its 20th anniversary
Access the Edge is an event sponsored by the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita where participants have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rappel down the 14-story Ambassador Hotel.
Project Access is hosting a new and exciting event on Aug. 29 and 30 at the Ambassador Hotel - Access the Edge. This fundraiser will help the organization raise essential funds to continue its 20-year history of coordinating donated health care for the uninsured population of Sedgwick County.
Sponsored by the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, participants have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rappel down the 14-story Ambassador Hotel.
Local dignitaries will show their support for Project Access by being the first to rappel on Aug. 29 at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. VIP dignitaries will include: Gordon Ramsay, Wichita police chief; Tammy Snow, Wichita fire chief; Jeff Blubaugh, Wichita vice mayor; Lacey Cruse, Sedgwick County commissioner; Jim Howell, Sedgwick County commissioner; Shelly Prichard, Wichita Community Foundation president & CEO; Bonnie Bing, local celebrity and Wichita Eagle columnist; Carol Linnens, former Kansas State Board of Education member; and Ken Schmanke, a fourth-year medical student at KU School of Medicine-Wichita. Prichard, Bing and Linnens are members of the 4-Wichita Advancement Board for KU School of Medicine-Wichita. Those going on Friday include Shelley Duncan, executive director of Project Access; and Rick Kellerman, M.D., chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine at KU School of Medicine-Wichita.
Of the physicians and other health care professionals who volunteered their time through Project Access and have seen at least one patient since Jan. 1, 2018, to now, at least 68% of them were KU School of Medicine-Wichita physician faculty members and they saw at least 62% of the patients. KU School of Medicine-Wichita faculty are from the following fields: anesthesiology, family and community medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, pathology, pediatrics, radiology and surgery.
