The seventh annual 24-hour day of giving is in the books and supporters of KU School of Medicine-Wichita showed their crimson and blue colors.

On March 6 during One Day. One KU., KU School of Medicine-Wichita raised $155,876 from 136 donors giving 144 gifts. All of the priorities – scholarships, the new Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program and the Greater KU Fund for Wichita – received contributions. More than $23,000 was raised for the fellowship program, which included a $5,000 matching gift from Sue and Kurt Watson.

“Kurt and I were gratified that our Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship gift was matched by so many donors,” said Sue Watson. “The need in Kansas children has never been greater and we hope this raises awareness so others will join us in this important effort.”

“Our Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program at KU School of Medicine-Wichita is transforming the environment for mental health care and making the highest quality interventions available in the Wichita community,” said Cassie Karlsson, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and fellowship program director. “We strongly believe that if we want our children to be cared for by qualified and skilled child psychiatrists here in our community, we need to train them here with us, in our community. The donations received will help us do just that!”

Additional funds also totaling more than $23,000 were given to a number of Wichita’s academic departments, including, but not limited to, the departments of Family & Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

The Wichita KU Endowment office staffed a table that day in the main lobby and received 23 donations of $50 and above from KU School of Medicine-Wichita employees. Those names were put in a drawing for two goodie bags of promotional items.

KU School of Medicine-Wichita ranked ninth in the number of total gifts received out of 47 KU entities.

Overall, a total of $2,610,624 from 5,031 gifts was raised for KU. These contributions ranged from $5 to $250,000.

Thank you to everyone who supported KU School of Medicine-Wichita!
