A new exhibit, "Still Painting" by Kevin Lundy, is going up in June and will fill both art galleries at KU School of Medicine-Wichita.

The exhibit will open during a First Friday art reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the West Atrium of the medical school. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Lundy, an oil painter based in Wilson, Kansas, is known for the near-photographic imagery in his paintings. One technique that helps him achieve this look is by using smooth marine plywood instead of canvas as the base for his work. Lundy says he prefers this surface because it enhances the fluency of his brushwork.

Lundy started painting as a child under the tutelage of his artist father, continued art classes in high school and refined his technique during four years of college.

In the words of Lundy, "I paint because I need to, but a painting unseen makes me sad." Don't miss the First Friday opening reception to see the exceptional works of art.

The William J. Reals Gallery of Art at KU School of Medicine-Wichita is free and open to the public. The public entrance is the patient entrance on the east side of the building (1001 N. Minneapolis). Parking is available in the visitor parking lot or on Minneapolis Street.
