JayDoc Community Clinic fundraising banquet exceeds expectations
The $20,000 goal of the annual fundraiser was surpassed, with the funds supporting the growing need for interpreters/interpretation services at the student-run JayDoc Community Clinic.

“The 2024 JayDoc Community Clinic Awards and Fundraising Banquet was a huge success!”
This statement summed up the feelings of many of the organizers of the March 9 event at Exploration Place.
Thirty students, residents, faculty and volunteers were recognized for their contributions to the clinic.
“We are very proud of all our award winners who help make JayDoc Community Clinic possible,” said Marissa Ritter, third-year medical student and director of fundraising for JayDoc Community Clinic.
The $20,000 goal of this year’s fundraiser was surpassed. A net amount of nearly $29,000 was raised to help support interpreters/interpretation services for the clinic’s patients. Of the 484 patients seen during 2023, 315 or 65% were Spanish speaking, requiring interpretation services. Interpreters were in the clinic more than 170 times.
The money raised will fund approximately 220 interpreters for the year (two interpreters for Monday clinics and three interpreters for Saturday clinics). That equals approximately 850 hours of service. JayDoc has two locations at Guadalupe Clinics, one each on south St. Francis and south Hillside streets.
“The additional funds raised will help cover security costs for JayDoc's Monday evening clinic, which is another significant expense,” said Sofia De La O Bahr, fourth-year medical student and executive director of JayDoc Community Clinic.
“We are so incredibly grateful to all our sponsors and donors for their contributions to the clinic,” said Ritter.
Sponsors purchased tables and tickets that they used or donated to the students. In-kind sponsors donated items for the event and for the silent auction.
“The tremendous support from the community and sponsors was heartwarming,” said De La O Bahr.
“We can't wait to see what next year will bring,” exclaimed Ritter.
