Mr. Monopoly himself was at the Hotel at Old Town on Wednesday, Nov. 19, to help Wichita pass go and celebrate the new Wichita version featuring many landmarks, attractions, educational institutions and businesses, including KU School of Medicine-Wichita.

“Being featured on the Monopoly: Wichita Edition gameboard is an honor that reflects our deep roots in this community,” said Laura Tatpati, M.D., dean of KU School of Medicine-Wichita. “For more than five decades, KU School of Medicine has educated physicians and advanced health care right here in Wichita. Today, we continue to expand on that legacy as we move toward the opening of the Wichita Biomedical Campus in the heart of downtown — a project that not only strengthens medical education but also contributes to the city’s revitalization and economic growth.”

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu and Mr. Monopoly welcomed representatives of the game, participants and guests.

“We are so thrilled that Wichita is the newest city to land its very own spot on the global Monopoly map,” said Wu. “It is not only fun, but it is also a creative way to shine a spotlight on our community – the Air Capital of the World. Wichita is a city of big ideas and bold innovations. The Air Capital of the World and this edition captures the heartbeat of who we are, from our local businesses to our iconic landmarks to the places where families gather and make memories.”

Rick Muma, president of Wichita State University, spoke on behalf of its entities on the game board: WSU, WSU Tech and WSU NIAR.

“I’m excited to help unveil the Wichita edition of Monopoly, a game that finally gives our city the treatment it deserves: wholesome civic pride,” said Muma. “ ... it means a great deal to see Wichita State included in something that celebrates our city. This game highlights the places and institutions that make Wichita what it is, and it’s an honor to be part of that story.”

Roll the dice and tour Wichita’s neighborhoods and notable destinations on the Monopoly: Wichita Edition board, taking in its historic charm and innovative energy. Buy, sell and trade your way through the Air Capital, promoting Wichita’s spirit and pride one roll at a time.

The game of Monopoly has been around for 90 years and comes in 47 different languages, and now Wichita residents can own one of the latest adaptations featuring Wichita’s favorite iconic locations. If you’re a Wichita history buff or like playing board games, the Monopoly: Wichita Edition is what the doctor ordered.
