The public is invited to the First Friday opening art reception for local abstract artist Tania Pemar, whose new exhibit "Garden of the Gods" will open Aug. 5 in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art at KU School of Medicine-Wichita.

"Garden of the Gods" will feature acrylic paint, ink and oil pastels on paper and canvas. Born and raised in Spain, Pemar came to the U.S. in 2008 and now calls Wichita home. A self-taught artist, she uses gestural brush strokes or stains across the medium, focusing on line and detail to build a narration of life.

Refreshments will be served during the First Friday reception, which will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Public entrance is the patient entrance on the east side of the building (1001 N. Minneapolis). Parking is available in the visitor parking lot or on Minneapolis Street.

The William J. Reals Gallery of Art at KU School of Medicine-Wichita is free and open to the public. Regular business hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
