First chair of 4-Wichita Board passes away Feb. 3
Jeff Kennedy "was one of the very first in the business community to stand up and support" KU School of Medicine-Wichita through the 4-Wichita Board, said Rick Kellerman, M.D., former chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine.
In 2010, champions of KU School of Medicine-Wichita joined forces, originally, to promote the expansion of the school to a full, four-year campus. Jeff Kennedy was the first board chair of the 4-Wichita Board. During his time on the board, he also served on the Fund Development Committee. Kennedy participated on bus trips board members made to Topeka to visit with several legislators during January sessions.
“Jeff was one of the very first in the business community to stand up and support KU School of Medicine-Wichita through 4-Wichita,” said Rick Kellerman, M.D., 4-Wichita Board member and former chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine. “Many years ago, I asked him why, as busy as he was with other endeavors and without a clear connection to medical education, he took the time to support the medical school. His answer was short and sweet and meaningful. He said, ‘Because it was the right thing to do.’”
The board also focuses on furthering the school’s mission by placing an emphasis on building public awareness, governmental support and resource development.
Kennedy was a managing partner at Martin Pringle Attorneys at Law for 12 years.
A memorial has been established with 4-Wichita Board at KU School of Medicine-Wichita in care of KU Endowment, 1010 N. Kansas, Wichita, KS 67214 (please include Jeff Kennedy memorial in the memo line). His obituary is online.
