Annual Sweet A’fair event raises more than $20K for Sweet Emergency Fund, HIV/AIDS patients
More than 200 people attended this year's fundraiser at the home of Donna Sweet, M.D., AAHIVS, MACP, Internal Medicine professor and HIV specialist.
Donna Sweet, M.D., AAHIVS, MACP, professor, Internal Medicine, once again opened her home to host a fundraiser for the Sweet Emergency Fund that provides financial assistance for lifesaving medications for people living with HIV/AIDS, when no other resources are available. Each year, hundreds of people living with HIV/AIDS access the fund in one way or another.
More than 200 people attended this year’s Sweet A’fair fundraiser, which was emceed by KWCH Meteorologists Adrian Campa and Haylen Wilhite, and featured entertainment by DJ Presence and Drag by Q. This year’s theme was “A Reunion of Friends,” a play on the Friends television show that debuted the same year as the inaugural Sweet A’fair in 1994.
The Sweet A’Fair is one of the longest running fundraisers in Wichita and is unique in that it is hosted at an individual’s home. The committee would like to thank those who attended the event on Sept. 24 and all who donated to the Sweet Emergency Fund, with more than $20,000 raised this year although numbers are still being finalized.
Emergency funds or financial assistance programs for people living with HIV/AIDS provide critical support during times of crisis or unexpected financial hardship. These programs may cover essential expenses, maintain access to treatment and care, and improve overall quality of life and long-term health outcomes.
