33rd annual Research Forum in Wichita spotlights outstanding efforts by local researchers

This year, more than 70 abstracts were presented along with 50 poster presentations.

Award-winning research has been announced following the 33rd annual Research Forum on April 17 at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Each year, the Research Forum gives students, resident physicians and faculty members, as well as anyone interested in community health and medical research, an opportunity to present and discuss research projects, and facilitate research collaboration.

This year's keynote speaker was Giulia Bonaminio, Ph.D., senior associate dean for medical education and research professor in Family Medicine & Community Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Bonaminio shared the medical school’s vision for research as well as the relevance and importance of students, residents, staff and faculty conducting research at KU, especially in Wichita.

Participants in the Research Forum included faculty, fellows, resident physicians, medical students and graduate students from KU School of Medicine-Wichita, along with individuals from:

  • University of Kansas School of Pharmacy
  • University of Kansas Medical Center
  • Ascension Via Christi
  • Wesley Medical Center
  • Wichita Collegiate School

During the Research Forum, 77 total abstracts were presented, with 27 oral presentations and 50 poster presentations. Attendees went to eight breakout sessions by discipline to present. Those presenting included 20 KU medical students, 16 KU resident physicians, four faculty members and two pharmacy residents.
