Colby Souders portraitMission Statement
Our mission is to advance patient-centered innovation in female pelvic medicine through rigorous research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and access to high-quality urologic care.

Dr. Colby Souders, M.D., leads a research team at KU Medical Center focused on advancing female pelvic medicine and functional disorders of the lower urinary tract. Her areas of expertise include urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, recurrent urinary tract infections, and other pelvic floor conditions.

Dr. Souders is fellowship-trained in urogynecology and reconstructive surgery, bringing subspecialty expertise in complex pelvic floor disorders to the design of pragmatic clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives. Her team integrates clinical care, outcomes research, and multidisciplinary collaboration to drive patient-centered innovation in genitourinary health.

Her current research portfolio includes several multi-site, externally funded projects. She serves as Co-Investigator on a study evaluating models of subspecialty support for primary care providers managing urinary incontinence. Additionally, she is Principal Investigator for a project extending this work to rural practices, aiming to reduce geographic barriers to incontinence care. Dr. Souders also contributes as Co-Investigator on a longitudinal cohort study of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, examining the impact of diet, exercise, and comorbidities on patient outcomes and quality of life. Furthermore, she is involved in a randomized trial assessing a novel procedure for treating recurrent urinary tract infections.

Through these efforts, Dr. Souders and her team are committed to transforming urologic care by bridging research and practice, improving access to evidence-based care, and enhancing quality of life for patients.
