COVID-19 Update for Residency Applicants
Given the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the application timeline, rotations and interviews will be affected. We are committed to students who are interested in our excellent program and will continue to lead and innovate to make the process smooth and meaningful.
Virtual Sub-internships
Visiting students interested in our program will have the option to participate in a virtual sub-internship (vSUBi) experience. The experience will include simulated patients/telehealth, virtual operating room (live and recorded cases), reflective writing, didactics and presentations. We will do our best to give you a comprehensive learning experience as well as a feel of our culture, leadership and mentorship philosophies. You can apply for vSUBi via VSLO.
Away Rotations
The Urology Program at KU Medical Center will not be accepting visiting students. Exceptions are given based on the guidance provided by the Coalition for Physician Accountability to:
- Learners who have a specialty interest and do not have access to a clinical experience with a residency program in that specialty in their school's system.
- Learners who are required to have an away rotation for graduation or accreditation requirements.
Individuals meeting these exceptions should limit the number of away rotations as much as possible. Students should consider geographically proximate programs, when appropriate, to meet learning needs.
Residency Interviews
Our program is committed to online interviews and virtual visits for all applicants, including local students, rather than in-person interviews for the entire cycle.
ERAS Timeline
The Society for Academic Urology will be holding important informational sessions soon on sub-internships, the interview process, the match timeline and ERAS. We will then be able to inform you about interview dates as well as the match timeline.
There also will be informational sessions and webinars for residency candidates. You can check back at our website and the Society of Academic Urologists and American Urological Association websites.
