The KU Diagnostic Radiology program selects six residents each year through the National Resident Matching Program.

We will begin accepting applications for Radiology Residency candidates through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERASTM) when the system opens for institutions. Please do not send additional application documents, unless requested by the program. We download documentation from ERAS multiple times daily.

The University of Kansas Medical Center is an equal opportunity/ affirmative action employer. Applications are sought from all qualified people regardless of race, religion, color, sex, disability, veteran status, national origin, age, or ancestry.

A complete application includes:

  • personal statement
  • photograph
  • Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE or Dean's letter)
  • copy of all USMLE scores available (Step 2 scores should be received before institution rank list submittal deadline-February)
  • medical school transcript
  • at least three letters of recommendation (at least one should come from outside of Radiology)

The deadline for application is January 1. However, we encourage you to submit your application sooner for earlier consideration.

Residency Selection Committee members review all completed applications to select those applicants for interview. All applicants will be invited by email through the ERAS system. It is our policy that all applicants will receive a determination email (invited for interview or not) from our program by December 5.

Preliminary Program in Internal Medicine at KU

The University of Kansas Internal Medicine Residency Program offers an excellent preliminary training year, designed as 13 four-week rotations per year in the 3+1 format. Three weeks are on the assigned service, while the remaining "+1" week per rotation allows for up to 8 weeks in the radiology department for PGY1 residents who have matched at KU for their radiology residency. When preliminary KU radiology residents are on elective in the Department, they are permitted to function as PGY-2 radiology residents and experience dictating and staffing out with faculty.

You have the opportunity to rank and match your Internal Medicine preliminary year at KU. Learn more about the KU Internal Medicine Residency Program in this introductory video.

Your interview with Diagnostic Radiology serves as your interview for the preliminary program, and you do not need to apply to them through ERAS (but you may if you choose). If you match to Internal Medicine, we will provide them with your full ERAS application. The specific track number for the KU Internal Medicine preliminary year for our applicants is 1208140P3. Since the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and Internal Medicine preliminary program are not integrated, you must rank both programs in NRMP.
