Emphasis on Support, Engagement and Impact

The Clinical Psychology Internship Program is committed to maintaining a supportive atmosphere of learning where interns, faculty, staff and patients from all walks of life can understand, accept and appreciate one another. The interns work with patients, staff and trainees of many different backgrounds and identities. Thus, it is important that we have an environment that fosters appreciation that one’s own views and perspectives may differ those from those of others, so that we can treat everyone with respect and acceptance.

The internship's didactic and experiential training is aimed at developing an understanding of how to support all individuals represented among our patients as well as our trainees and staff. Its didactic training includes specific topics relevant to understanding this APA competency expectation.

The internship program has a unique group program known as the Impact Seminar, which focuses on our effect and influence on others and how we can best understand support and accept one another. This takes place in monthly activities throughout the year. In addition to our programmatic commitment and emphasis, interns may participate in the Departmental Support and Engagement Committee alongside psychology faculty and staff.

Additionally, the program is aligned with the broader commitments that the University of Kansas Medical Center makes to prioritize developing and implementing support efforts to foster a respectful, connected and engaged community across KU's campuses and instructional sites.
