PGY-1

Chris Conroy, M.D.

Dr. Conroy is coming to Kansas City from his hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania after completing medical school in Scranton, PA at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.  He loves to play basketball, to box, to swim, to play board games, and read.  He is interested in psychodynamic psychotherapy, future therapies for psychiatric conditions, and the sometimes-complex relationship between medical and psychiatric complaints.

Rachel Specht, M.D.

Dr. Specht is originally from the Inland Empire in southern California, where she grew up on a small ranch growing various types of fruits, mostly citrus. She is a lover of animals and grew up around dogs, cats, parakeets, and horses, and my hobbies revolve around creativity, such as drawing, painting, knitting, slime making, and origami. She is a current Internal Medicine/Psychiatry resident here at KU Medical Center where she is excited to explore various interests in both fields. She hopes to combine these two specialties to care for underserved populations, such as those with neurodevelopmental disorders, those with substance use disorders, or those undergoing gender affirming care.

PGY-2

Gina Gabrielli, M.D.

Dr. Gabrielli is a Kansas City native. Her undergraduate studies were at Northwestern University in Neuroscience, and she returned to Kansas City for Medical School at KU Medical Center. She is delighted to continue her career at KU Medical Center and to be in Kansas City again where she enjoys visiting the museums, seeing theatre productions, and going to the many parks around town!

Ryan McCormick, M.D.

Dr. McCormick is originally from Oklahoma City (go Thunder), but did his undergrad in Orlando, FL, where he studied music and met his amazing wife. His path to Med-Psych was driven by a belief that understanding the mind is key to treating the whole person—mentally, physically, and emotionally. When he’s not in the hospital, you’ll likely find him experimenting in the kitchen, planning his next travel adventure, or enjoying music—both listening and playing. He also loves quiet nights at home with his wife and our two cats, who definitely run the house.

PGY-3

Carter Biskup, D.O.

Dr. Biskup is from rural Wisconsin and studied neurobiology/leadership at University of Wisconsin-Madison, after which he became a massage therapist where he was shaped and inspired by human connection and the mind-body relationship. Outside of residency, he prioritizes family dance parties in the kitchen with his wife and daughter, planting things, and exploring endless KC activities. His interests include primary care, geriatrics, psychotherapy, sleep pain, and addiction medicine, and salutogenesis. His favorite thing about KU is working with humble, hard-working, incredibly intelligent colleagues that KU attracts year after year.

Elissa Freberg, M.D.

Dr. Freberg is originally from Friendswood, Texas (suburb south of Houston) and did all her schooling in Texas: undergrad at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in central Texas and medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine in Galveston. Regarding her future career, she is particularly interested in a combination of inpatient and outpatient practice in an academic setting, and is leaning towards psychiatry consults and med/psych clinic. In her free time she is big into sports (soccer, volleyball, and most recently pickleball) and has played in a few rec leagues since being in KC. She’s also become a big bar trivia fan and is always looking for trivia teammates. Coming from the Houston area, the minimal traffic in KC has been a dream. Also, she loves coffee and the coffee scene here has not disappointed. Lastly, she must mention she’s a dog lover and has an 11-year-old rescue named Chadwick. He's a 20-pound mutt (verified via DNA test) who is a friend to all.

PGY-4

Nasam AlTwal, D.O.

Dr. AlTwal was born and raised in Jordan (yes, like the country). After high school, she moved to Nebraska, where she attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and majored in mathematics with a minor in biochemistry. From there, she headed southwest to sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico for medical school at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is passionate about inpatient hospital medicine and consult-liaison psychiatry, with special interests in obesity medicine and the evolving field of bariatric psychiatry. When she’s off service, you’ll likely find her powering through a Pilates class, vibing at a concert, or on a mission to try every foodie gem in Kansas City. What she loves most about KU is the incredibly warm and supportive community, both residents and attendings, that have made Kansas City feel like a true home away from home.

Kanwalgeet “Kenny” Hans, D.O.

Born in Queens, NYC, but calling Wyoming home, Dr. Hans completed his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Wyoming, followed by a year of graduate studies in Neuroscience, focusing on the neurobiological underpinnings of addiction. After completing paramedic school at Creighton University and working as a paramedic for a few years, he pursued an MS in biomedical sciences at KCU, eventually earning his DO degree. His academic interests focus on innovations in addiction medicine/psychiatry and addressing healthcare disparities for homeless individuals and those suffering from addiction. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, watching movies, and reading a wide range of literature, from classics to medical journals. He loves Kansas City’s vibrant food scene and values the supportive environment at KU, where colleagues make navigating residency both fulfilling and manageable.

PGY-5

Domenic DiGiovine, M.D.

Dr. Digiovine is one of the 5th years in the med/psych program. He is currently applying to fellowship in palliative medicine with an interest in providing mental health care for patients with chronic medical illness. When he’s not in the hospital he enjoys going to sporting events, playing board games, and taking his two dogs, Sully and Luna, to one of the many dog parks in Kansas City!

Manpreet Sira, M.D.

Living in the midwest for the past decade has taught Dr. Sira a lot about what it takes to be a provider. She studied at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and Transylvania University for Biochemistry, so coming to KC for combined training was not too big of a jump for her. From the beginning, she has been passionate about the value of combined training in treating patients with a holistic approach. As a fifth year, she is eager to keep honing her skills in psychiatry consult/liaison and combined med-psych wards. When not in the hospital, you can find her at Scraps KC buying fabric, sewing garments, going for walks and spoiling my cat Nephra.
