Barry Liskow, M.D., retires after 40+ years of teaching and leadership at the University of Kansas Medical Center
Dr. Liskow's legacy sets an example and will continue to inspire future generations of psychiatrists
After a 41-year career with the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Barry Liskow, M.D., professor and vice chair, retired on December 31, 2023. Dr. Liskow created a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. A beloved and respected faculty member, he positively impacted his patients, colleagues, residents and staff.
As a devoted educator, Dr. Liskow taught countless medical students and residents. His dedication and passion for teaching earned him numerous Residents’ Choice Awards. He was always there for his students and colleagues—as a coach, colleague, mentor and friend.
In addition, he held many leadership roles throughout his KUMC career, including the psychiatry residency program director, vice chair, interim chair, outpatient clinic director and various committee leadership roles.
Throughout his career, Dr. Liskow demonstrated unwavering dedication to providing exemplary patient care. His clinical excellence is a testament not only to his expertise and experience, but also to his compassion, empathy and attentiveness to his patients' needs and concerns.
