Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences celebrates 80th anniversary in 2026

First formed in 1946, the department will celebrate its rich history with a yearlong series of archival spotlights and feature stories.

With its top-tier training programs, outstanding faculty, residents and staff, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Kansas has much to celebrate in any given year. But 2026 brings additional excitement, with the department celebrating its 80th anniversary. 

To commemorate the milestone anniversary, the department will highlight its illustrious history throughout the year. Follow the department on LinkedIn to see archival photos, videos and feature stories about the esteemed faculty and programs that have shaped the department over the past eight decades. Additionally, Dr. Gabrielli will share several special department artifacts, videos and stories at the department’s Annual Celebration on Tuesday, January 27.
