How do I register for the TTS training?
To apply, please complete the application form, the Spring 2025 TTS course will begin on Monday, February 17, 2025.

What are the costs of the training for me/my organization?
The program is $1,000 for the entire 8 week course.

Is this training accredited?
The University of Kansas Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training is fully accredited by the Council of Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP) since 2020.

What is the difference between Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) and a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists (CTTS)?
Completing this training will allow you to become a Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) There are additional requirements to become a certified tobacco treatment specialist. Completing an accredited program, like this one, is a pre-requisite to gaining certification. At this time, the national credential is NCTTP (National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice). More information on national credentialing can be found with NADAAC, the organization that manages this credentialing process.

Can I become a TTS if I use tobacco?
Trainees must be tobacco-free for six months prior to training.

My coworker/friend/boss became a TTS elsewhere. Will this training be of the same quality?
The TTS program provided by the University of Kansas is accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP) and meets all competencies set forth by CTTTP accreditation standards.

I took the TTS training before but I want to take the training again. Is that ok?
To be a TTS, you only need to take the TTS training once. The program is designed for participants who have never taken the TTS training.

Can I receive continuing education credit for completing the TTS training?

Yes. Continuing education credit has been approved as follows:

Social Workers: The University of Kansas Medical Center Area Health Education Center East, as an approved provider of continuing education by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board presents this offering for a maximum of 23.0 hours credit applicable for re-licensure of LASWs, LBSWs, LMSWs, and LSCSWs. APRNs/Nurses: The University of Kansas Medical Center Area Health Education Center East is approved as a provider of CNE by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for 27.5 contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, or LPN re-licensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing provider number: LT0056-0749. Physicians: The University of Kansas Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Participation requirement: To receive continuing education credit or a certificate of attendance participants must fulfill all course requirements including completion of online modules and attendance at a one-day training. After all requirements at met, participants will receive instructions regarding completion of documentation and obtaining certificate(s).
