The total cost of the program varies based on individual student factors including state of residency, concentration selected, transfer credits, scholarships/financial aid, and any joint or dual degree enrollments. More details about tuition and fees are available through the Registrar’s Office.
Yes. Our program is specifically designed with flexibility in mind to support students who are working, and many students find their work in the classroom supports their work in the field. While many of our full-time students work part-time throughout their time in the program and many of our part-time students work full-time, we do not recommend pursuing both full-time employment and full-time enrollment simultaneously.
Students can switch between full-time and part-time enrollment as needed throughout the program. However, F-1 and J-1 visa holders must maintain full-time enrollment to meet visa requirements. Additionally, eligibility for federal loans depends on meeting a minimum enrollment requirement, so be sure to check those guidelines if applicable.
Only Kansas residents are eligible for in-state tuition rates unless you obtain a Graduate Research Assistant position. Visit the Registrar's Office site to learn more about our institution’s residency requirements and process.
The KU-MPH program offers in-person courses on either our Kansas City or Wichita campuses. Students can complete the MPH degree entirely on their home campus and are not expected to travel between campuses. In Kansas City, in-person courses are offered during the afternoon and early evening. In Wichita, in-person courses are offered in the evening.
The KU-MPH program also offers courses online to accommodate professional students who need flexibility in scheduling.
Students admitted to the MPH-Generalist concentration can complete all of their courses online.
Students are welcome to set up their own internship at a public health or healthcare agency of interest for their future career goals. Students can also use the network of KU-MPH partners to set up their internship. The MPH program director will discuss options for the internship with each individual student in order to make sure assistance is offered, as needed.
MPH graduates pursue diverse career paths across public health, healthcare, research, and policy sectors.
Many students pursue careers in government agencies like the CDC or the FDA, but also state and local health departments. Common roles include epidemiologist, public health program manager, health policy analyst and environmental health specialist.
Graduates also pursue employment in health care organizations, non-profit organizations and academic institutions.
MPH graduates often find that their career paths evolve as they gain experience and develop specialized expertise in particular areas of public health. The versatility of the degree allows for both vertical advancement within a chosen field and horizontal movement across different sectors of public health practice.
Students are asked to choose a home campus (Kansas City or Wichita) as well as a concentration. Students are encouraged to choose only one campus and concentration. Students who wish to complete the degree completely online must choose the MPH Generalist concentration.
The KU-MPH program requires that students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in order to qualify for admission to the Graduate School. If you do not have an undergraduate GPA above a 3.0, please contact the MPH Director to discuss options and alternative admission pathways.
