Curriculum

This course of study requires two years for full-time students and at least three years of study for part-time students. The curriculum includes course work in health systems, finance, policy, information systems, epidemiology, outcomes management, reimbursement and other areas related to the delivery, financing and organization of health care and services. To strengthen students’ understanding of practice, most courses combine theory and experiential learning, with projects in health care organizations being common.

An internship is required of all students. To complete the internship, students must work in conjunction with a mentor in a health care setting. Most students complete the internship between their first and second years of study.

The curriculum consists of 56 credit hours of required courses, which includes three credit hours of electives, and an internship of one credit.

Plan of Study

Both full and part-time students begin the MHSA program in the fall semester. Two-year, full-time students will follow the course sequence listed below. Part-time students work closely with the MHSA Student Services Manager on a semester-by-semester basis to design a schedule that meets their individual needs and program requirements.

These courses comprise the current MHSA curriculum. Some additional courses, as well as some course substitutions, may be required for joint degree programs. The faculty may make curriculum changes from time to time.
