Resident Life

Living in Kansas City

Kansas City offers the diverse exuberance of a major metropolitan folded into the comfort and affordability of the midwest. The city is in a constant state of growth, as it is regularly adds new attractions, such as James Beard nominated and award winning concepts in the restaurant and cocktail scene. Kansas City also features historical neighborhoods and renowned architecture from Frank Lloyd Wright and Skidmore Owings & Merrill and community events such as Octoberfest and Boulevardia. The metro area is divided into unique neighborhoods with their own energy, aesthetic, and style. Travel is seamless, with traffic being easy, even during rush hours, and the streetcar reaches from the downtown River Market area to the vibrant shopping experiences offered at The Country Club Plaza.

Beyond clinical training, our plastic surgery residents, fellows, and faculty are active participants in the life of the city. Colleagues often connect outside of work by visiting local parks, exploring new restaurants, or enjoying the area’s acclaimed craft breweries. Each year, members of the department form a team for a 46-mile relay race and gather for our annual spring celebration to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments.

Kansas City’s combination of accessibility, affordability, and vibrant culture creates an environment where trainees can thrive both professionally and personally. We are proud to call it home—and we think you will be, too.
