PGY 4

Dr. Leavitt was born in Northern California and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he grew up. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Utah Valley University before attending medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado. He completed an internal medicine preliminary year at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Within PM&R, he is interested in pain medicine, interventional spine/MSK, regenerative medicine, and general rehab. Outside of medicine, Dr. Leavitt enjoys spending time outdoors, skiing, fishing, attending sporting events, and spending time with his wife Alyssa and their two English Bulldogs, Ginger and Nutmeg.

Dr. Mian was born and raised in Reno, NV. He graduated and was commissioned as a second lieutenant from the United States Military Academy at West point in 2011. He was later stationed at Fort Riley, KS as a tank platoon leader. After returning from deployment in 2015, he married his wife, Jessica. After years of being chronically dehydrated and inhaling copious amounts of tank engine fumes, he decided to attend medical school where he graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. His PM&R interests include brain injury rehabilitation and interventional pain management. Outside of helping his patients achieve functional independence, he enjoys taking orders from his daughter and cleaning up after his geriatric cat.

Dr. Mok is from Louisville, KY. He earned both his bachelor’s and master's of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville. Before attending medical school, he worked in the design development of medical devices ranging from voice prosthetics to surgical devices. Dr. Mok completed medical school at the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and his intern year at Jewish Mercy in Cincinnati Ohio. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, rock climbing, and spending time with his wife and two dogs.

I'm from Dallas, Texas and grew up in the area. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Biology from Texas A&M University. After that I continued my education and received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. After practicing for a few years, I chose to further my education and attended St. George's University School of Medicine. I just recently completed my PGY1 Year at DMC Sinai- Grace in Detroit, Michigan. With my background, PM&R was the perfect fit for me. I am interested in MSK/Spine and General Physiatry, but I'm also looking forward to having more exposure to other subspecialties in PM&R. Outside of medicine I enjoy travelling, spending time with friends and loved ones, reading, and attending boxing classes.
PGY 3

Dr. Allen-Matlock grew up in Akron, Ohio before moving to Lawrence, Kansas to receive her bachelor's degree in Human Biology with a concentration in Psychology at the University of Kansas. After graduating, she took three years off and worked as a preschool teacher for kids age 3 to 4, as well as doing ABA therapy for children with autism and developmental disabilities. During this time, she completed a post baccalaureate program with a Cleveland State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), which is ultimately where she completed her 4 years of medical school. She is currently married to a Psychiatry Resident who is also practicing at the University of Kansas. They are both parents to a beautiful toddler daughter. Her interest in PM&R includes cancer rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, sports medicine, and/or inpatient rehabilitation. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hanging out with her daughter and husband, attending KU sporting events (her husband played football for KU), and watching anything on the Bravo network.

Dr. Draper was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. While there, he completed undergraduate training at the University of Utah in Kinesiology and Biomedical Engineering and an MBA in Healthcare Management. He then moved to the midwest to complete medical training at Kansas City University and an intern year at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In the future, he is interested in pursuing a fellowship in Interventional Spine and MSK. Outside of residency, most of his time is spent with his wife and chasing after his 4 children. He enjoys all things outdoors, including camping, rock climbing, disc golf, fishing, pickleball and all sports.

Dr. Parth Patel was born in Illinois and grew up in Union, KY, close to Cincinnati. He attended University of Kentucky where he graduated with BS in both Psychology and Biology. He then attended University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his intern year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Montgomery Campus). He has interests in almost all fields of PM&R but would also like to develop as a researcher during residency. In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys movies, exercising, cleaning, and spending time with his fiancé and family.

Dr. Wingard grew up in Round Rock, Texas before going to the University of Texas at Austin to receive her bachelor's degree in Human Biology. After graduating, she worked at Dell Medical School managing their Pipeline Program in the division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She was then accepted to Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX, where she met the love of her life. Her husband is a general surgery resident in the KUMC program. Her interest in PM&R includes cancer rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, MSK and spine, and/or inpatient rehabilitation. Outside of medicine, she enjoys quality time with her husband, playing any and every game, doing yoga, and going for runs in Loose Park.
PGY 2

My name is Stephanie, incoming PGY-2. I am originally from Saint Louis, MO. I went to A.T. Still University-KCOM in Kirksville, MO for medical school, and lived in Phoenix, AZ for 2 years for medical school rotations. Within Rehab Medicine, I am most interested in Neurorehabilitation and Interventional Spine and Sports. Outside of medicine, I love to read, hike, and play sports. If anyone ever needs an extra pickleball/tennis/volleyball/basketball player, let me know! I currently live in the Roeland Park area with my fiancé, Sam, who loves sports more than me, and my dog, Milo--a frisbee fanatic. I am looking forward to finally joining the Rehab team!

Dr. Gulergun was born in New York City, and raised in Westchester, NY. He earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications Studies at Syracuse University. He then moved back to NYC, working as a personal trainer and assisting with medical research, while completing his post-baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University. Dr. Gulergun earned his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in PM&R at Northwestern University School of Medicine before finishing his intern year in Bradenton, FL. His interests in PM&R include Interventional Spine/MSK, Sports Medicine, Pain Management, and General Physiatry. Outside of medicine, he cherishes the time spent with his wife, daughter, dogs, and cat. He is also passionate about all things film (especially Star Wars), traveling, tennis, college basketball, soccer, and playing FIFA.

Due to growing up in a military family I have lived across the globe however Tacoma, Washington is considered home. In my junior year of high school we were stationed at Fort Leavenworth and since then I have lived in Kansas. I played baseball at a junior college in Kansas City before transferring to the University of Kansas where I completed my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. I attended medical school at Kansas City University and then went on to complete my intern year at KUMC. Within PM&R, I am interested in pain medicine, interventional spine/MSK, and inpatient rehabilitation. Outside of medicine I enjoy playing sports, working out, and spending time with my wife Madison, my daughter Rose (with another daughter on the way soon), and our two dogs Russell and Griffey.

I was raised in Southern California and pursued my undergraduate education at UC San Diego. I attended Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school, and completed my transitional year in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After experiencing an unsuccessful initial match, I applied again to PM&R, resulting in a gap year. During this period, I maintained clinical proficiency by practicing independently as a healthcare provider in Missouri, focusing predominantly on workman's compensation and urgent care medicine. My primary interests within PM&R include general rehabilitation and spinal cord injury, although I am eager to explore additional facets of Physiatry during my training at KU.
