Application Requirements and Process

Our program begins with the PGY-2 training year. You must separately apply for a PGY-1 position and, as one option, you may apply for a preliminary PGY-1 year through the Department of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. If any candidates are specifically interested in the Preliminary Year Program through Internal Medicine here at KU, please notify our Program Coordinator.

Further information concerning the Preliminary-Year in the Department of Internal Medicine Program can be obtained by referring to the KU School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency web site or by calling 913-588-6777.

Application Process

We accept applications for four PGY2 positions beginning each July.  Applicants must have one year (PGY1) training in Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Transitional Year, be eligible for Kansas and Missouri licenses, and be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

All applications must be submitted through the electronic application process ERAS.  No universal applications will be accepted or reviewed.

To be considered for an interview, in addition to the core items, an application must include:

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a physiatrist
  • USMLE  or COMLEX exam scores
  • Medical school transcripts

To verify eligibility for Kansas license, visit the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts website at http://www.ksbha.org/
