Professional Background

I was born and raised in Chile where I obtained my bachelor’s degree on Biochemistry at The University of Santiago de Chile. I worked on vaccine development against Salmon pathogens. Also, I worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Radiation Oncology doing research on Pancreatic cancer. I applied to IGPBS in 2022, and I am currently a graduate student in Dr. Udayan Aptes’s laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics.

Research

Overview

I have standard lab duties in Dr. Apte’s lab. I am responsible for the management of the mice colony and executing experiments. I have learned multiple techniques and I am planning to expand my skills learning RNA-seq and/or mass spectrometry in the medium term. My research focuses on the mechanisms of liver regeneration after acetaminophen-induced liver injury, and I am collaborating on a project focusing on adverse effects of environmental contaminants on the liver. In parallel, we collaborate with Voytek Slowik M.D. from Children’s Mercy Hospital searching for potential diagnostic biomarkers of disease progression and therapeutic targets on plasma from pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NALFD).
